Seal Out Embedded Odors

Techniques to Remove Post-Fire Odors

When is comes to embedded odors in wood and concrete, we need a post-treatment process that seals of embedded odor threats that most treatments cannot reach. This process applies to the following odor problems:

  • Pet urine in wood subfloor and concrete

  • Charred and fire damaged areas after cleaning and treatment

  • Post-mold treatments after dry-out to prevent mold return

There are some advanced skills required when some odors are deeply embedded into porous material. One of the solutions is what we call a “Vapor Shield” that is an impermeable barrier.

Most professionals have used an acid etch on concrete floors followed by an application of a concrete sealer. Enviro Seal is the better version that applies in a fine spray application to all types of surfaces.

One gallon of the RTU product covers 600-1000 sq ft depending on the material being treated. At $89.95 for four gallons (2400-4000 sq ft), this product compares nicely to other floor sealing products.

Post-fire or water damage, Enviro Seal is applies after the areas are dried, cleaned, and treated to kill mold. Sealing the wood is one of the best ways to prevent past odors or fresh mold from returning.

This is a product to try out: At $109 for four gallons, and 600-1000 sq ft per gallon of coverage (4 /gal covers up to 4000 sq ft at a cost of 3 cents a sq ft)

Apply with a pump sprayer or pour and spread with a roller. This seals any odors deeply embedded into the wood or concrete so they do not linger in the building for years after the problem was initially solved.

Bottom line, this is a superior product to provide an impermeable “Vapor Barrier” for a far better price. Once the cleanup job is done,
